Local Events Provide Exposure

April 18, 19 and 20, 1997, the Nipawin Lion's Club hosted its annual Trade Fair.   The Winter Games Committee took advantage of this event to showcase the upcoming Games, to display and also market Games souveniers.   Trade Fair visitors were given the opportunity to seek information and have questions answered by the volunteers who manned the booth. Wilbur-r-r-r, the Games mascot, made several appearances and pleased the crowd both young and old.

May 2, 1997 provided the Games Committee with yet another opportunity to introduce Wilbur-r-r-r and the Games to a province-wide audience, when the L.P. Miller students were host to a Peer Support Provincial Conference.

Challenge 500 For Kids .... A Great Success

The Win With The Games Lottery was challenged by the Pasquia Park Top of the Line Lottery to see which group could sell the most tickets in a four day period.   The four day challenge which ended May 22,1997 culminated with a day of activities meant to promote ticket sales and to provide some excitement leading up to the Winter Games next February.

The day started with a pancake breakfast and a fitness walk hosted by the Nipawin Senior Citizens.  The 1998 Winter Games Committee then hosted a series of events.  Some of the Lottery prizes were on display, tables were setup on the street to give people the chance to buy lottery tickets.   Several challenges were issued between various businesses and offices to help generate sales.   There were several activities planned from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.  Live street entertainment was provided by various local artists.  Winter Games merchandise was on display and a hot dog sale raised some money for the Winter Games.   Spectators were also able to cheer for their favorite team in wheelchair races; the races were held on a gruelling course on Centre Street and several locals and dignitaries took part.   The activities ended with a giant balloon drop; 250 balloons were dropped from a Sask Power bucket truck.   Several contained vouchers redeemable for various prizes, the grand prize being a lottery ticket.

While Nipawin did not win the challenge, the activities generated some additional ticket sales and provided some entertaiment for spectators and participants.

Win With The Games Lottery

The Nipawin Win With the Games Lottery has reached a successful conclusion.   The May 31st draw saw the Major Prize being awarded to a Star City couple Randy Jacklin and Elaine White.   The lucky couple decided to accept the $100,000.00 cash award as their prize.   The lottery was held in conjunction with the Nipawin Junior Hawks and Nipawin Minor Hockey.   Nipawin Win With The Games' share of the lottery proceeds will go to support the 1998 Saskatchewan Winter Games.

1998 Winter Games Committee Hosts Rainbow Days BBQ

The Winter Games Committee held a hamburger sale June 5, 1997, in conjunction with the Nipawin Chamber of Commerce Annual Rainbow Days.   Winter Games souveniers were on sale during the BBQ.   Proceeds from the BBQ will go to   support the 1998 Winter Games.

Strutting His Stuff!

Wilbur-r-r-r, the Winter Games mascot, has been busy this summer attending fairs and parades in the area.   Wilbur-r-r-r was a hit in the Birch Hills, Carrot River, Tisdale, Melfort, Prince Albert and Nipawin parades.  As a Goodwill Ambassador for the 1998 Winter Games, Wilbur-r-r-r creates excitement and makes new friends wherever he visits.   The Winter Games Committee also used the Nipawin Exhibitiion as an opportunity to showcase and sell their souvenir merchandise.
