Winter Games President's Message

Since 1972 Saskatchewan has hosted thirteen Games in various communities in Saskatchewan.   The Saskatchewan Games provide an opportunity for amateur sports to compete every two years, alternating summer and winter sports.   Nipawin will be home of the best-ever Saskatchewan Games, February 22-28, 1998.   We are pleased to bring the games information to you by internet technology.   This brings the world to Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan to the World.

The Games draw athletes from eight zones in Saskatchewan and are funded by the Saskatchewan Games Council through the Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund, Corporate sponsors, Saskatchewan Municipal Government, the host community and souvenir sales.

Nipawin will provide a home for more than 1800 athletes during the one week period.   Over 1500 volunteers from Nipawin and area will take part in the organization and staging of this event.   Ten thousand plus spectators are expected to attend the many sporting events.   The legacy to the community and to the games is an integral part of planning.

Historically, Nipawin has many great accomplishments, from autospiels to fishing tournaments.   The 1998 Saskatchewan Winter Games will be an unforgettable experience for all participants and volunteers.
