I was born in the Narrow Hills Provincial Park near Fishing
Lake, where I lived for many years. I'm a pretty rare type of bear, you know, because
while all the other bears settle down and sleep all winter, I stay awake and play in the
snow and slide on the ice. I was so lonely spending all those winters by myself
that, one day last winter, I decided to go in search of "Love" in a new place.
On my journey I encountered a "White Fox" who told me about a beautiful park near the "End of The Rainbow". Now, I didn't know where that was, but, one day as I was strolling along listening to one of my country and western stations on my walkman, I heard about a place called Nipawin . . . " At the end of the Rainbow" so, I set off to find that great sounding town.
I arrived in Nipawin on April 22, 1996, at exactly 9:45 a.m. to a great commotion coming from the Evergreen Centre. The '98 Saskatchewan Winter Games in Nipawin!!!! I thought," Wow! won't it be a Party!!"
So. . . . I ran right over and volunteered to help! Everyone was so nice to me and made me feel so cuddly and warm. I was given the exciting job of being the official mascot for the games but I had to promise to sleep all summer and fall so that I would be able to stay awake from December 31, 1996 until the end of February 1998.
I was so happy!! I'd found a new home and new friends in the beautiful town of Nipawin ---- " At The End of The Rainbow"
Here are somethings this bear would like you to know:
| he had his alarm set for New Year's Eve '96 to wake him up so he could start telling everyone to come and "cuddle up" in Nipawin for the '98 Saskatchewan Winter Games. Wilbur-r-r-r was Introduced to Nipawin on New Year's Eve December 31, 1996 at a hockey game between the Hawks and Melfort Mustangs. | |
| loves the snow and ice and loves to play on them; | |
| loves frozen ice cream treats, Saskatoon berries and blue berries (especially in pies), honey (right out of the hives, but only with permission), walleye and trout out of the pond in the Regional Park; | |
| his favorite sport is "watching" all winter sports (even ice fishing); | |
| his favorite clothes are just the "bear" necessities (and a tie for special occasions); | |
| he loves all kind of music, but his favorite is country and western (Bobby Bear, Hank Snow, Shania Twain); | |
| favorite colors are "all the colors in the rainbow"; | |
| is a hard working, cuddly bear who will tell everyone in the province that he sees to come to the "98 Saskatchewan Winter Games at the end of the rainbow, here in Nipawin. | |
| his biggest ambition is for Nipawin to win "Gold" for hosting the "Best And Friendliest Winter Games Ever." |
